I was blessed to have acquired this antiquated, literary masterpiece free of charge. There were no republishing issues to contend with, nor was I disappointed by any other onus that often plagues e-publishing a classic novel. This book is well-written (obviously, it's a classic), exciting, adventuresome, witty, and perceptive... just an extraordinary masterpiece. My only issue is that when I have to select another book to read, I will be extremely difficult to please for quite some time! I realize classics aren't for everyone because they can be overly descriptive by today's standards, and are often considered boring by quite a few people. However, if you love classics and literary genius like I do, this is definitely a book you must read.

The story's setting is in England, the characters range from elite to servant, and the author has the extraordinary gift of bringing the characters to life in a most satisfying and creative manner. The characters have incredible depth, the protagonists are absolutely loveable, the antagonists absolutely reprehensible; however, both are equally exceptional and well-developed. There are several points of view which assist in making the story more comprehensive, and allows the author to better engage and invest the reader in the storyline.

This book is a mystery, and as such, is shrouded in a whodunit atmosphere so compelling and sublime you will not be able to put the book down. Also, if you are an author, or planning on becoming one, I can think of no better book to read to help inspire your own personal ruse. Again, this is an excellent, excellent, excellent read! (The book is also lengthy, about 18 hours worth...but the time spent is, without a doubt, well worth it).

The Woman in White Xist Classics edition by Wilkie Collins Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

From the very beginning your attention is held and you want to know the involvement of each character. Very good
Love love loved this book! But be aware that you will probably only like it if you like Victorian style writing and if you are willing to ignore the annoying gender biases of the time. Other than that, it's a beautifully written book with an intriguing and twisted plot that wraps up seamlessly in the end.
Interesting twists and interesting writing style where the narration switches between the different characters, giving the reader not only different information and a different point of view between the relationships. Good stuff.
Extraordinary way of telling the story through the eyes of each character. Bravo. Due to the time period setting I found it just a little tedious to translate into 21st century English, but also enjoyed the use of real English rather than 21st century slang. The written word is the opportunity to elevate the mind and the soul of the reader as well as to clearly communicate the ideas and facts therein. I would recommend this book to everyone.
This was the best mystery I have ever read from this time period. Originally published in 1859 it is a fine example of the period. With an emphasis on the female characters it contains everything a good mystery has. Titled characters. Murder maybe, identity theft maybe, intrigue galore. A must read
As a lifelong reader and lover of mysteries, I'm perplexed as to how I overlooked this one, considered a classic and perhaps the first real crime thriller. I had difficulty putting it down and believe it more than lives up to its reputation. The characters are believable and sympathetic, though I found Laura a bit of a wimp and far preferred Marian, and the plot has many a twist and turn. I rated it four stars rather than five due to the wordiness, though I realize that style is representative of the era.
This is one of my favorite novels. There is a very strong female lead, a couple of dastardly villains, and true love.

The language belongs with time it was written, and is far more lovely than what I read today. The characters are complex and memorable.

The plot? A sweet, gentle woman marries an ass who wants to get rid of her for her money. The plot also provides for spies, madhouses, and deception.

This is not a quick and easy read. It will take time and commitment but is well worth the effort.
